This course is designed to provide entry-level skills based on the categories required for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification.
Automotive technology is a two year NATEF (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation) certified and an AYES (Automotive youth Education System) program at CCTE. This program provides students with instruction in diagnosis, repair and adjustment required for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification. Students will master the following components: engine repair, engine performance, suspension, brakes, electrical/electronics. Special emphasis is placed on safety tools and equipment. The second year of the program qualifies for Certificate of Merit credit. Seniors who have successfully completed all academic requirements except English IV may earn a certificate in one year attending CCTE as a senior.
Auto technology students can enter the automotive field working in a car dealership, auto repair shop, service station, or for an auto parts manufacturer or retailer. Also, students may continue their education at a college or technical school in order to prepare for advanced careers in auto technology. In addition students may earn college credits at Allegany College of Maryland, Community College of Baltimore County, and Universal Technical Institute for the skills they acquire in the auto technology program through the articulation agreements.
Requirements:
- General CCTE admissions requirements
- Interview with Instructor during 10th grade visitation or scheduled at a later date
- Automotive Aptitude test given during 10th grade visitation

- Overall GPA- 2.5
- Math- C average or better
- One computer credit- C average or better
- Attendance- 95%
